March is the start of spring for many countries, and daffodils are the perfect flowers to symbolise a new start of this season. If your nose tends to be drawn towards floral scents, you definitely don't wanna miss out on Penhaligon's latest fragrance - Ostara.
"Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
How much more light-hearted and relaxed can this poem make one feel? Seeing it on the outer packaging of Ostara brought me back to a super windy day in February when my best friend and I walked pass a huge grass field, and decided to twirl around / lay down / take #OOTD shots… except without flowers. Imagine how pretty our pictures would have looked if there were colourful flowers surrounding us!
Created by Master Perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour and inspired by the daffodil, Ostara is a modern interpretation of this incandescent and cheery-looking flower.
Daffodils are unfortunately rare or priced heftily in Singapore (maybe not even sold here?), but they are very common in United Kingdom during spring time - it is also the national flower of Wales, United Kingdom.

Here's a breakdown of the notes used to create Ostara:
Top Notes: Clementine, Bergamot, Red Berries CO2, Juniper, Spearmint, Blackcurrant Bud CO2, Violet Leaf Absolute, Leafy Effects, Aldehydes
Heart Notes: Hyacinth, Narcissus Absolute, Beeswax Absolute, Cyc amen, Ylang Ylang, Hawthorn, Wisteria
Base Notes: Styrax Resinoid, Vanilla, Benzoin, Musk, Amber, White Wood Effects
As described and explained by Penhaligon's about their concoction:
"Ostara opens in an affirming burst of green and yellow: (top notes) Juniper, Violet Leaf Absolute and Spearmint are layered against vibrant notes of Aldehydes, Blackcurrant and Clementine. (heart notes) Narcissus Absolute leads the sun-drenched floral bouquet, gathered with Hyacinth, Hawthorn, and Cyclamen, which are given depth by the humming warmth of beeswax. The fragrance then settles into a powdered, resinous base of (base notes) Benzoin, Vanilla, Styrax, Amber and White Wood effects."
A 50ml bottle of Ostara retails for S$205, and a 100ml bottle costs S$290.

According to Caroline, brand manager of Penhaligon's, the scent of Ostara lingers a little differently on everyone's skin. I love floral fragrances in general so I already knew I wouldn't dislike the smell of this. I have to say that at first spray, I wasn't the biggest fan of the smell; I do like it, but it's not "the one", if you know what I mean. However, as the clock ticked by and I kept bringing my arm to my nose to have a sniff, I actually found myself liking it more and more.

If you have never checked out Penhaligon's before, you really ought to because the interior design itself is already worth a visit. It is safe to say that everyone present in the store was in awe - I felt like I was being transported to another location the moment I stepped into Penhaligon's. If you're into #OOTD shots, you won't be able to resist leaving the store without snagging a picture of yourself in it!
