Lipstick / lipgloss / lip stain? It's all of the above with Etude House's NEW Color in Liquid Lips | Swatches & First Impression Review

Press Sample

Products by Etude House never fail to please, don't they? Packaging, quality, affordability - they almost nail them all every time!

This Spring, the Korean brand launched a whopping collection of 20 new lipsticks, with every shade being incredibly vivid to reflect the effervescence of Spring = the season of youth!

I love bright lip colours!!!

The new Color in Liquid Lips (it bugs me that they use US English though hahaha) is a triple threat to lip perfection, with a combination of lipstick, lipgloss, and lip stain, all in one! These liquid lipsticks offer a plush and velvety texture that melt effortlessly onto your lips. From pretty pinks to robust reds and even spicy oranges, you are bound to find a shade that will match your favourite Spring outfit, whatever your style.

Each lipstick comes with a unique Water Drop Tip which helps you pull off the gradation effect with little effort.
The special tip actually makes applying on my cupid's bow a breeze!

Ingredients
Formulated with sweet almond oil and sunflower seed oil, they work together to create a moisturising radiance minus any greasy residue. At the same time, these oils help to ensure your lips remain cushiony and well hydrated. With that, let's take a look at their ingredient list. The ingredients of each shade defer slightly due to the different colours, so here's the list of 1 of them (PK001):

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil Mica (CI 77019) Diisostearyl Malate Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891) Dicalcium Phosphate Silica Silylate Stearalkonium Hectorite VP/Hexadecene Copolymer Tridecyl Trimellitate Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate Kaolin Red 28 Lake (CI 45410) Propylene Carbonate Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil Diglyceryl Sebacate/Isopalmitate Methyl Hydrogenated Rosinate Sorbitan Isostearate Phytosteryl/Isostearyl/Cetyl/Stearyl/Behenyl Dimer Dilinoleate Silica Methicone Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate Tocopheryl Acetate Dehydroacetic Acid Fragrance(Parfum) Red 6 (CI 15850)

Although the "highlighted ingredients" are not located at the top 30% of the list, this is a different case because I don't think we'd want the formula to feel extremely oily and greasy either!

Each product also comes with a One Touch Colour Pigment, which creates a vibrant colour pay-off in one application. And this is so damn true! I'm sure you're more interested in the swatches rather than my blabbering so let's get to 'em swatches now!

Swatches
(Again, forgot to watermark but nevermind)
Swatches were kindly provided by the Etude House team - these were not easy to collate by the way; I spent about 1 hour identifying the shades and arranging them into collages… FYI only hehe

Touch PR was very kind to send me 5 of this range's "star shades" to play with, so I thought I should show my gratitude by doing up this post even though they didn't ask me to write a review or anything of the sort. So without further ado, here are some lip swatches of the 5 I received:

Please pardon my tired faces below, it was already 3AM. *yawns*

RD302 Red in Danger

Note: I adjusted the colour of this picture so as to show a more accurate swatch of this shade. The first picture makes this shade seem orange-y, but RD302 is a dark-red shade and isn't the least orange-toned in real life

From the lip swatches above, you can see how every shade I tried on had such intense colour pay-off with just a single application, and they remained just as pigmented after I blotted my lips with tissue. And FYI, it wasn't just a light dab / blot - I pressed the tissue against my lips with a good amount of pressure, and the colours still remained fully intact! In fact, when you pull the applicator out of the tube, there is actually more than enough product for your lips (just like mascaras), so there was a lot of "excess" when I blotted. Even then, these lipsticks stained my lips beautifully, as witnessed above.
Full-on blotting!

A good thing to note though, is that your lips need to be well-exfoliated for an ultra-smooth application. Like most lipsticks with awesome pigmentation and staying power, these will cling onto dry patches. However, they do not accentuate on your fine lines and are comfortable on the lips throughout the day (maybe because of the oils?).

Each Color in Liquid Lips lipstick retails for S$17.90 (0.12 oz. / 3.5g) at all Etude House Singapore boutiques.

Buy or Bye? | My Verdict
Less than S$20? Checked. Cute packaging? Checked. Intense pigmentation? Checked. Travel friendly? Checked. A variety of shades? Checked. Erm, do I need to state blankly? These lipsticks are definite winners in my book and a MUST-BUY! Also, I've worn these lippies for a number of days now, and each time I didn't have to worry about my lipstick wearing off! If you know me well personally, you'll know I'm always checking if my lipstick is still on. Yes, there were little fades after each meal,  but not to the extent that I saw a need for touch-ups, and that's a big deal for someone like me who's cautious about lipstick wear-offs. Just remember to exfoliate your lips prior to application! An easy way is to apply some micellar cleansing water onto a cotton pad, and gently rub your lips with it in circular motions. This method somehow works better if you have lipstick on - a huge reason why my lip swatches look pretty smooth.
