Christmas gift ideas with a local touch | Philatelic Store @ GPO Festive Collection Launch

When you think of places to buy Christmas gifts, or simply a gift in general, our local SingPost will (most likely) never cross your mind. Yes, you read that right - our very own Singapore Post. Stepping into the Philatelic Store @ General Post Office (GPO) will absolutely change your gifting game. This season, the Philatelic Store is making Christmas shopping fun again!

Located at the heart of SingPost Centre, just in front of GPO, the store screams "Christmas" with well-arranged and aesthetically-pleasing Christmas decorations to welcome the upcoming festive season with open arms.

The Philatelic Store offers a comprehensive range of Singapore & Foreign Stamps, Thematic MyStamp Souvenirs and Philatelic Gifts that are available exclusively in-store.

Every item in this SingPost-operated store marks a special moment in Singapore's history. The commemorative value and exquisite designs of the collections make them perfect not just as Christmas gifts, but for all occasions - business gifts, souvenirs for tourist friends, or as cherished inclusions in every philatelist's personal collection.

There is so much to see at the Philatelic Store! Hence, here is a breakdown of the new exclusive launches as well as everyday gift ideas that you can expect to find:

My Personal Favourites

A truly special and valuable gift idea to me will be the stamp-made-into-artwork frame pieces that the Philatelic Store carry. Despite them being the priciest items in the store, I think these artworks are truly one-of-a-kind and are perfect to gift a tourist friend whom you treasure, a distinguished foreigner guest at a company event, and even a loved one who is an avid artwork collector.
One example: Tableware, Traditional Peranakan Kum Cheng with original stamp (S$268)

There are also painting or drawing style artwork pieces available for sale. Designs are also adapted from original seasonal stamps that SingPost used to carry, featuring Singapore's olden landscapes and architecture.
One example: Singapore Traditional Sites, Chinatown Artprint (S$108)

And while you're there, be sure to browse through the "Stamps Collections" section in the store, where it features stamps that SingPost has produced over the last few years. I loved how browsing through the stamp display cases and boards brought back so many good ol' memories!

Also, why not take part in a fun contest while you're reliving the past at the Philatelic Store? Guess the number of snowflakes within the premise and stand to win S$300 worth of shopping vouchers! Contest ends 31 December 2017.

Snap a selfie with the snowman as well! And did you know? The colonial-era red pillar posting box has been restored, and mail dropped into this posting box will be postmarked with a special date stamp in red ink!

For my fellow cafe-hopping enthusiasts, check out Brunches Cafe after you're done getting all your gifts from the Philatelic Store. The latest chic vintage-themed bakery-cum-cafe (located along Rangoon Road) serves, as the name suggests, brunch food! Expect all-day breakfasts, gourmet sandwiches, waffles, or wind down and sip on some coffee or tea.
We were catered some food by Brunches Cafe at the event, and to be honest, they tasted pretty decent! They actually tasted better than they looked in those aluminium trays. Find out more about Brunches Cafe here.

Thank you SingPost and SampleStore for the nostalgic and Christmassy tour!
